Surgery Services at the Asheville Veterinary Specialists
Our surgeon is Brett C. Wood, DVM, MS, Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. (What is a board certified veterinary surgeon ?)
Anesthesia/Analgesia: All patients receive intravenous catheters and extensive pre-operative and intra-operative pain management, including continuous intravenous pain medications and epidurals for rear limb procedures. Personalized anesthetic protocols are devised based on the patient and the procedure. The patient's comfort and stress levels are closely monitored throughout their hospital stay. When anesthesia is in use, complete monitoring of heart rate and rhythm, body temperature, blood pressure, and blood oxygen saturation is performed by one or more surgical technicians. In addition, we have ventilator capability for intra-operative support of patient’s ventilation.
Post-operative Treatment/Monitoring: Post-operative patient comfort and supportive care is of paramount importance to the surgical staff at the AVS. Due to our collocation with R.E.A.C.H. of Asheville there is an ER doctor and trained veterinary nursing staff on duty 24 hours for our in-hospital patients. We have intensive care units for patients in need of continuous oxygen therapy.Surgical Services we provide:
